TOY LIBRARIES

A toy library works, as you would expect, in a similar way to a normal library, offering families regular toy loan for a nominal fee or sometimes even for free. They have a carefully selected range of toys available to borrow, run play sessions and serve as a meeting place for parents and children. There are over 1,000 toy libraries throughout the UK, serving approximately 250,000 children. 

The National Association of Toy and Leisure Libraries (NATLL) is the national body for toy and leisure libraries in the UK. Its role is to support existing libraries, promote the development of new facilities and raise awareness of the importance of play. They also publish the annual ‘Good Toy Guide’, a long established and authoritative consumer guide to toys available in the UK.

To locate your nearest toy library, either telephone or use the online Response Form published on the NATLL website. You can also use this form to obtain information about starting your own toy library. A free information pack concerning this is available on request from the NATLL office.
