I've got three children all fussy in their own way but luckily the two eldest have started to settle down on the junk food front.
When they were younger and going through the 'I only eat tinned pasta and crisps' stage (from roughly 2 years to 6 years) my theory was that crisps were a carbohydrate and so was the pasta and the sauce contained tomatoes, now if I could get a bit of fruit into them and some milk or cheese then that would do. It isn't perfect but I can assure you that the relaxed approach to this takes the stress out of mealtimes and by the time my kids were heading to 7 the fussyness was backing off and by 11 (my eldest boy) I am being eaten out of house and home yet this same child went through a phase were he would only eat beans on toast, tinned pasta, cheese and crisps.
They soon tire of all that junk food and get curious of what you are eating and so you offer them a bit and gradually over the years you get there. My seven year old still hates chicken and most meats and cheese but loves milk, you just have to cater to what they like and the rest will fall into place. We usually eat the same thing at mealtimes now.
I am going through this all again as my 8 month old daughter is ultra fussy. |
