How awful, so I guess reading my story before your's wasn't much help to you! I honestly think this was a 'one-off' incident and with it being your first you just didn't know what to expect. All that blood and stuff is quite horrific, I really never thought there would have been that much.
I think what made it easier for me was not allowing myself to panic and trying to stay in control. Fortunately for me the Dr who perfomed the 'cut and suck' was a lovely gentle Greek man, who calmed my fears about this procedure. The thought of a c-section didn't bother me it was the 'cut and suck' I had paniced about all the way through my pregnancy, so you can imagine the horror when I'm told I was going to have this procedure, I nearly lost the plot, but my Dr and my mid-wives kept me calm.
Why your doctor had to say such hateful things is beyond me. Yes maybe thousands of women before and after you will give birth but for you that was your first. I wonder if he would have left his own wife in so much discomfort.
I was terrified of birth and that was one of the few reasons I left it so late to taste the delights of motherhood. So I can honestly say I know how frightening the thought can be and especially for you when you have had such a medieval experience!
I know friends who have worried about their second but just decided before hand they would get to hospital earlier and demand/ask for an epidural.
I'm sure your second won't be anywhere near as distressing as your first. It really does seem like an isolated case. I would suggest makeing the mid-wife for your next pregnancy aware of your experiences and how it had made you feel. She will be in the best position to try and not allow your first experience to repeat itself and to help eleviate your fears.
Don't let it put you off having another bundle of joy. Good luck.
r more aware of what was happening the next time and able to cope alot better and finding it easier to demand more. They usually go in to hospital earlier to they can have the painkillers before they dilate too much. |
