ADHD AND ME

Hi

I’m Noah and I am 12 years old. You may know me as my mum Jan has been writing about me on this site for ages! I, like many other people, have ADHD and I have to say it has some good points and some bad ones.

The good points for me are as follows:

  • I am good at most of the sports that I try
  • I am good at constructing (making) things
  • I am good at making friends
  • I am clever
  • I am kind, etc.

The bad points for me are:

  • I have a short temper
  • I can be annoying at times
  • I can be oppositional at times
  • I have to take medication

What I am going to write about is how I cope with ADHD and what happens over the week that my ADHD might have an effect on, for example...

On Sunday:

My 8 year-old cousin JO-JO came round and she and my sister Alice went to my grandma’s to play. When they came back they had a kind of perfume that they had made out of flowers, leaves, bubble bath and grass - they thought it was great.

"Nick smell this flower," said my sister.

I smelt the flower and my sister squirted me with the perfume so I (being me) grabbed the perfume and threw it over the garden fence.

My sister was really upset - she was crying and so was my cousin. When Mum came out to see what all the noise was about she screamed….

"Mum, Nick threw my perfume bottle over the fence."

"Nick, go over and get it or you’re grounded until you do," said my mum.

At first I refused, then I realized that I would very quickly get bored when I was grounded - I do get bored easily you see.

So I had to get the ladder, find my way through loads of nettles and plants which scratched me and go over the fence to get the perfume. Unfortunately I forgot that the people behind us have a very big dog - it wasn’t until I was over the other side that I remembered. The ladder was on the other side of the fence which was 6 foot high (I’m only little) and my mum was shouting, “Have you found it yet?”

You’ve never seen me move so fast, even though I couldn’t see the dog - I’m scared of them and I knew this one was fierce. I climbed that fence so fast I almost forgot about the perfume bottle!

Anyway - Alice got her blooming perfume back, I escaped the dog and Mum went back to cooking the tea.

If any of you have kids with ADHD they can write to me through Tigerchild and I can maybe help them to understand more about what works for me and my ADHD and what doesn’t.
