>> MOBILE PHONE FEARS

Parents are ignoring health warnings by allowing young children to use mobile phones, according to a leading expert. In his latest report, Sir William Stewart, head of the National Radiological Protection Board, says there is still no proof that mobiles are harmful, but nonetheless he recommends a precautionary approach because of the difficulties of assessing the impact of such a rapidly evolving technology. He points out that childrens' skulls are not fully thickened and their nervous systems not properly developed - any radiation from a phone will penetrate further into their brains. Sir William also calls for a review of the planning process for base stations and argues that mobile phone masts should not be sited near schools, saying he is now more concerned about possible health hazards than he was five years ago. According to the latest figures, one in four children between the ages of seven and ten, now owns a mobile phone.

Parents can help reduce the risks by chosing phones with a low emission rate or SAR - go to the Mobile Manufacturers Forum website for information on individual phones.

Do you think children under 8 should be allowed to use mobile phones? Tell us what you think by voting in our Tigerpoll.

MEDIA REQUESTS

Tigerchild is occasionally approached by other media organisations in the course of their research for articles or programmes. We are happy to publish their requests here, but should you decide to follow up their interest, we take no responsibility for the outcome!

BBC2 Documentary

Is paying the mortgage stopping you getting what your really want out of life? If you never had to worry about the mortgage again, what would you do? Give up work? Take up a new career? Move abroad?

The BBC is looking for people who want to try and increase their earnings and find new ways to save money in an attempt to pay back their entire mortgage within 24 months. It’s NOT a reality TV show but a serious programme for BBC2. It will be a tough challenge but do you have the talent and stamina to see it through?

What would you be prepared to do in order to get rid of that debt? Do you have hidden talents you’ve never tapped into financially? Have you got an entrepreneurial streak and a business idea that you’ve always wanted to get off the ground?

If you could rise to the challenge, a new BBC series is interested in talking to you. Pay Off Your Mortgage is a new documentary project which will follow eight households over two years as they face up to running their lives like a business and try to stay focused on the two year goal.

If contributors manage to clear their mortgages, they will also save tens of thousands of pounds in interest payments. For example, if you have a mortgage of £100,000, and pay an interest rate of 5% over 25 years, you’ll end up paying over £75,000 on top of your mortgage – meaning you end up paying back over £175,000!

This is not a competition and there are no guarantees, but if you’re motivated enough and clearing your mortgage early is something you’d love to do then the BBC would like to hear from you.

Bella Magazine
Hi, my name is Lottie Lumsden, and I'm from Bella magazine. There has been a lot in the news about children being shopaholics by the age of ten. Male and female. Not just shopping to have the labels but also for the buzz and urge to shop. Perhaps buying items they never use or need. Is your child obsessed with shopping? Do you think advertising companies target children too much? Does this anger you? Is it their favourite past time? Do they depend on you too much for money to fund this shopping obsession? Are you concerned about this issue? Or are you a strict parent who tries to ensure they don't spend all their money on shopping? I'd be really interested and keen to hear from anyone who can relate to this, and feel they know or have a child between 8-14years old who is obsessed with shopping. Or of course a parent who feels quite strongly against this, and keeps a strong hold on their children shopping as a past time. Telephone: E-mail lottielumsden Many thanks Lottie
